I spent quite a while tracking this Gilded Flicker through the Sonoran Desert. Usually, they perch high atop saguaros, making a clean shot tough. But when this bird settled on a low branch at eye level, I took the chance, carefully framing it against the softly blurred desert colors. Its calm, steady pose really spoke to me about balance and patience.
