I took this photo of a Green-winged Teal one quiet, overcast winter morning in Gilbert, Arizona. The cloudy sky softened the light and kept reflections on the pond muted, which let me capture the subtle green and warm chestnut colors on the bird’s head. As the teal drifted slowly across the still water, there was an incredible calmness in the scene that felt almost timeless.
