I photographed this Green-backed Hillstar in Ecuador’s Upper Amazon Basin on a cool, damp morning after rain. The bird hovered just before feeding, adjusting its position with remarkable precision. That short pause, captured against a simple green background, reveals the quiet focus hummingbirds have before they make their final approach.
